What to Look for in Anti-Aging Products

With all of the moisturizing products on the market today, you can embrace growing older while holding the wrinkles at bay. You probably won't be able to remove all of them without surgery, but if you choose high-quality products with anti-aging ingredients targeted at your specific needs, you can soften the lines on your face and knock a few years off the way you look.

Here are some ingredients to look for:

Retinol

This is a type of vitamin A that helps to smooth wrinkles and fine lines, brightens dull or dark spots, unclogs pores, and gives your skin a more youthful appearance.

Hyaluronic Acid

You might think that something with "acid" in its name would be hard on your skin, but it's not. Hyaluronic acid attracts moisture to your skin for a dewy appearance while it aids in the production of collagen.



Vitamin C

You may see the ingredient listed as ascorbic acid, but that's just another word for vitamin C. It helps reduce inflammation, aids in producing and building collagen, and provides elasticity that your skin typically loses as it ages.

AHA

This stands for alpha hydroxyl acids, an ingredient that helps exfoliate the outer layer of skin that may have become dull and lifeless in appearance. Skin that appears more youthful will come to the surface and give you a brighter glow.

Antioxidants

The most common antioxidants are vitamin C, pomegranate, green tea, grape seed extract, and vitamin E. These ingredients fight free radicals that take their toll on your skin and promote healthy cell growth.



SPF

For daytime wear, look for a sunscreen with the strongest SPF your skin can handle without irritation. This protects your skin from the harmful rays that promote wrinkling, dryness, and possibly even skin cancer.

While face creams may help you look more youthful, there are other things you can do to aid the process of looking your best. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, avoid mid-day sun, use sunscreen, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, don't smoke, and avoid excessive alcohol.
